WNYMuslims': 'Muslim Journeys' Adult Reading and Discussion Program!

WNYMuslims hosted our first session of our Adult Reading and Discussion Program this week titled 'Muslim Journeys.' The lovely first session centered around discussing the first book entitled 'Acts of Faith' by Eboo Patel.

Thanks to the award of a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities WNYMuslims is able to offer this program to the public free of charge.

The remaining 3 programs will consist of 90 minute meetings once a month (October to December) where we will be discussing the three books provided by the council.  The three books include Acts of Faith: the Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation by Eboo Patel, Minaret by Leila Aboulela and How Does It Feel to Be a Problem?: Being Young and Arab in America by Moustafa Bayoumi.

Featured Photograph of the Week

This week's photo is by  student Farhana Shafi, taken of a place near Virginia Tech, VA.

"My friends and I went for a road trip during winter break 2012 and we were so grateful that we had the chance to visit almost 14 states (I barely remember though). One of the best stops was the hilltop at Virginia, where we were awestruck by the magnificent sunset view. Everyone was so into the view, including my friend in the picture. I'm pretty sure she was thinking of her family back in Malaysia. This trip was our first official reunion in the US after a semester apart. We were in the same college back in Malaysia but had to separate our ways to different schools here. Nevertheless, our friendship still survive till today. Alhamdulillah "

Farhana, 'Far' for short, is a Malaysian Junior studying Biotechnology and Communication at the University at Buffalo. She enjoys photography and traveling to the farthest ends of the Earth whenever she can.

If you have taken a photograph that you think should be featured, please send it in with a description of the shot, and a little bio of yourself to WNYMuslims@WNYMuslims.org
