This past weekend, the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) held a formal dinner event at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, NY. The dinner was a night filled with laughter and heart filled joy with comedian Dean Obeidallah.
The night began with a brief slideshow of the local physicians who contributed their time and efforts for relief word around the world. Shortly followed was Dr. Ismail Mehr’s welcoming presentation about the organization and him highlighting key members of the community that have helped and contributed significantly. The biggest contributor was Dr. Salahuddin Malik.
IMANA had a short fundraiser before dinner and they raised approximately $75,000 from the community for relief missions. If you would still like to donate, please visit their website at http://www.imana.org/donations/. An urgent appeal has been made for their #SaveNepal fund.
Among the hosts that night were Dr. Asif Khan, Hiba Zafar and Dr. Ismail Mehr. Once the fundraiser was concluded, dinner quickly followed catered by Pakistan House. Dessert was served with beverages and there was laughter filled jokes from comedian Dean Obeidallah. Dean emphasized that night the importance of Muslims raising their voices for themselves; be it in the media, politics or in their communities with laughter and a positive attitude. He had a vision to reach as many hearts as he could to positively influence them about the true message and beauty of Islam and it’s followers. The message struck all in the audience and it was definitely a night to remember.
