BUFFALO, NY – Thursday, April 20th, 2023: On the night of April 20th, 2023, WNYMuslims hosted their annual Chaand Raat celebration at the Apna Dera Restaurant. The Chaand Raat event is held to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, bidding farewell to the blessed month and welcoming the joyous festivities of Eid al-Fitr. It is a pre-Eid tradition that is celebrated by many families, and WNYMuslims host it as an event.
The event began after the traditional Iftar meal, which is eaten to break the daily fast during Ramadan. As the evening progressed, the Apna Dera restaurant was transformed into a vibrant and bustling marketplace. The air was filled with the scent of delicious Eastern culinary delicacies, and the sound of music and laughter could be heard throughout the venue.
The main focus of the event was to promote local private businesses, and it proved to be a lucrative opportunity for vendors selling jewelry, ethnic clothes, and food. Traditional henna artists were also present, and women were able to get their hands adorned with intricate designs while their children enjoyed other activities.
The event was a resounding success, with the banquet hall remaining packed for the entire duration. Families and friends gathered to share in the joy of the occasion, enjoying food, music, and each other's company. Children ran around and engaged in different activities, while adults chatted and shopped.
One of the unique features of the Chaand Raat celebration is the emphasis on community. The event provides a much-needed sense of connection and belonging, especially after a month of fasting and spiritual reflection. It is an excellent opportunity for families to kick off Eid with the community and prepare for the festivities the next day.
The WNYMuslims organization would like to extend their gratitude to the management of Apna Dera Restaurant for their cooperation and support, without which the success of the event would not have been possible. We would also like to thank our dedicated team and volunteers for their hard work and dedication in making the event a success. Overall, the Chaand Raat celebration was a joyous and memorable night for all who attended, and it will undoubtedly continue to be a beloved pre-Eid tradition for years to come.
