There was a charity bowling event to raise funds for the Amina Foundation on Sunday, March 8th at Transit Lanes in Williamsville, NY. The event, organized by the Amina Foundation, OAS (Organization for Arab Students-University at Buffalo) and MSA (Muslim Student Association-University at Buffalo). This event raises money for widows and orphans in Afghanistan. Twice a year in the spring and fall semesters this event happens. This year marks the third year that this event has occurred.
The cost of bowling was $10 per bowler. The entry fee paid for bowling and for shoes. Bowlers of all ages attended to help support this cause. Food and refreshments were available but at an additional cost to bowlers. The organizers goal was to raise $800 for this event as during last years event they were able to raise $600.
Bowling began at 6PM and went until 8PM, midway through more than 50 bowlers were present. Bowlers came with family and friends to show support for the noble cause and to have fun. It was a perfect occasion to just sit back, relax, and have a good time.
Each of the co-organized groups work on several different projects throughout the year. OAS is a charity based group at the University of Buffalo that raises cultural awareness. Previous accomplishments of OAS include raising $1400 for Syrian refugees in Jordanian camps and raising $11,000 for Syrian refugees in general. Future OAS events include a FIFA Night and Middle Eastern Night. The Amina Foundation is just 1 year old but do not let their age fool you. Already, the Amina Foundation has helped 80-84 families having food for a month to a month and a half. MSA was not available at the time for contact.
Overall the event was fun and laid back with a good cause. Look out for future events from all 3 co-organizers, MSA, OAS, and the Amina Foundations. Look out for future events with OAS and PSA!
