Brother Shaheed Ali organized the tournament and was and was also a coach of one of the teams. Shaheed claims that his goal was to create a positive outlet for Muslim youth and create a tournament that would bring together many teams. He said there were many tournaments around Western New York, but few that involved any Islamic schools and organizations. He hopes to change that and intends to organize more tournaments for the future.

The tournament was filled with skillful basketball players, loud cheering and a great amount of fun. At the end, only 1 team received the winner’s trophy but every player walked out the gym with their heads held high and smiles on their faces.

Keep a look out for future sports events and tournaments in the Muslim community.
