“Peaceful offerings” is, in essence, the perfect description of what this event was meant to captivate. The Buffalo Academy of the West Side hosted this culminating event, for the second time, in support of peace and justice. A delightful bazaar setting, highlighting local artists and vintage vendors selling their eccentric and one-of-a-kind merchandise. From handmade jewelry, clothing, soaps, paintings and posters, to vintage housewares, scarves, wood and stone carvings and so much more from all around the world.
I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Native Americans; who were selling novelty items that represents their sacred heritage, a woman from Rwanda; with a beautifully adorned table, covered from end to e
nd in woodcarvings of all sorts, and an Asian couple who owned a local business in the area, among many others, and found that as different as we all are, we all had the same goal in mind. Aside from the goods being sold, many of us were just there to spread awareness and information about the organizations we represent. Organizations that want to do away with
ignorance and bring forth acceptance, peace, and
justice for all.
Events such as this one, allow people from different faiths and all walks of life from all over the world to be together in one room and explore one another’s cultures, customs, and beliefs without passing judgments. It’s an opportunity for everyone and anyone to ask questions openly to start a dialogue and discern between facts and fiction, in hopes of being able to move passed the perceptions.
