Pakistan’s 72nd Independe...

May peace and blessings upon you!

Desi Varsa, Buffalo, USA has celebrated Pakistan’s 72nd Independence Day yesterday on Wednesday, August 14th, at the Mill Middle School.

We highly appreciate the overwhelming response we got from the Pakistani community of Western New York. Thanks for making our event successful with an exceptional turnout.

The 14th August event began with food vendors offering traditional Pakistani food along with different games and activities for kids. The program was hosted by Mr. Khalid Irfan, who introduced Desi Varsa and the reason behind its very existence. He started the program on a strong note with Quran recitation by Qari Basit, followed by the standing ovation on American and Pakistani national anthems. Later, there was a Hamd recitation by Yusuf Siddiqui followed by an interesting presentation based on Cultural Identity by Professor Faizan Haq, which was focused on our origin, the history of Pakistan, what makes up the country’s identity, and raised awareness regarding the current Kashmir crisis. After the presentation, there was a fancy dress show, in which young girls and boys participated in adorning Pakistani cultural outfits. Audience had the opportunity to sing beautiful Pakistani patriotic songs and shared their hidden singing talents with the audience. There was also a quiz session based on Pakistan’s history, for which winners received prizes. Lastly, the main event ended with a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the momentous day.

We would like to thank each and every individual of our Pakistani community who attended and helped organize the event. Without everyone’s consistent support, we would not be able to hold such a successful celebration. Their presence has encouraged us to continue having more events in the future, with the aim of arousing an even stronger sense of community.
