The disastrous flash flooding in Pakistan has displaced over 700,000 people in Pakistan, and another 400,000 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir are being asked to leave their villages.  3,774 houses  have been damaged or destroyed in addition to the other destruction across the province, and  residents are experiencing widespread losses of livelihood & habitats.

Authorities breached a dyke with hopes of allowing flood waters to recede, but doing so has caused villages in the region to become even more flooded. With over 1 million villagers stranded the death toll has begun to rise.

Helping Hand for Relief and Development is providing much needed healthcare Emergency Relief Services in the Union Council (UC) of Kallri, Tehsil Lalian, District Chiniot, Punjab, Pakistan. In two days, HHRD medical teams have served 597 persons.

Emergency Response for flood affected people of Punjab has been initiated and the following are thematic areas of this emergency response:

– Deployment of three mobile medical teams

– Food items

– Non-Food items

– Provision of clean drinking water

Current operational areas of this response are: Districts Sargodha, Chiniot,  Hafiz Abad, Mandi Bahauddin,  Jhang, Haveli, Palandri and Kotli in Azad Kashmir.

Our teams report that the river Chenab is in an Extremely High Flood (EHF) situation. Heavy rainfall impact extends to central and northeast Punjab; Hazara divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP); and across Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK). Urban flooding is being experienced in Lahore and other affected cities. Approximately 109 deaths have been reported in Punjab, while 87 have been reported as injured. 3,774 houses have been damaged or destroyed in addition to other destruction across the province.

In addition to this ongoing situation, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that due to a second flood wave in River Chenab, EHF (above 6,00,000 Cusecs) situations shall persist at Trimmu for next 24 to 48 hours with a likely peak discharge of 800,000 Cusecs until 21:00 PST on Friday, September 12th.

Under these conditions, Districts Multan, Muzafargarh, Khanewal, Jhang, & Toba Taik Singh are likely to be inundated.
