FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (03/16/13)
WNYMuslims Community Outreach Event to Raise Awareness of Islam
WNYMuslims hosted an event on Wednesday April 03, 2013 titled “Roses of The Prophet: iLove.” The event took a place at both the University at Buffalo North Campus Student Union and Lafayette Square in Downtown Buffalo from 11 am to 2 pm. We distributed hundreds of roses, along with inspirational quotes from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to community members. WNYMuslims also be dropped off a bucket of roses for patients at Sisters Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
This initiative has been showcased throughout the world in Canada, the UK, Norway, and now the United States. This gesture is a peaceful and subtle attempt to help change how Muslims are viewed, since they are often misrepresented in mainstream media. WNYMuslims aims to discourage such misrepresentation by hosting events such as this one, and encouraging Muslims to become actively engaged in the media.
It is WNYMuslims’ mission to help spread awareness, encourage diversity, and educate about the true nature of Islam both within and beyond the local community through the use of media. Now more than ever it is vital for the community to come together in an effort to discourage discrimination, stereotypes, and hateful crimes.
WNYMuslims invites community members to help with preparing the roses and passing out roses on the day of the event. Please consider volunteering or stopping by either the University at Buffalo Student Union or Lafayette Square on April 3rd from 11 am to 2 pm to participate in this event.
