The Collective Junior Inaugural Dinner June 2018

The inaugural event took place on the 27th of June, 2018. Our team hosted the Collective Junior launch at the venue Taste of India. We had a great group of young adults between their high school and early college years attend the event. Our Quality Assurance Coordinator, Husnah Mahmood started off the event introducting our current program and our aim with this initiative. We had a short recitation of the Qur’an with translation, using Chapter 16 Verses 125-128. The itinerary for the evening took a collaboration of the whole team and was then directed by Maribel Avila, the Program Coordinator. Our mission statement, what it means, and a discussion of how our narratives are incorporated into the work we do was provided by our Executive Editor, Damion Townsend – Baldwin. A summary of what we do and the process by which we do it was prepared and presented by our Content Management Coordinator, Alexander Jasinski. Thereafter, the Founder of these amazing organizations, Faizan Haq presented our attendees with the history of the current programs, as well as the projects and goals we have planned for the future. Everyone then participated in activities and exercises designed to spark conversation on current events and the effetc we are seeing on the world. There was great interest shown in joining this endeavor and attending our future workshops: Graphic Design, Public Speaking, Photography and Creative Writing. Dinner was served after the interactive discussion. Last item on the agenda was a friendly dialogue where everyone had an opportunity to voice their thoughts and ideas. The event ended with lots of enthusiasm for the next event. We will be announcing our next meeting soon, we hope to see you there! Eid Carnival 2018

WNYMuslims invites you to come and celebrate Eid-ul-Adha Festival. We give out free drinks and halal food for all. For the children we bring attractions, like bounce houses and ice-cream. We hold this event every year to give those that are less fortunate a carnival and to bring the community together, Muslim and non-Muslim. With over 500 attendees, we have never seen a larger sea of smiles and laughter. Eid Carnival Flyer in Arabic: Eid Carnival Flyer in Urdu: Eid Carnival Flyer in Bengali:   What is Eid? Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Fitr is a festival that marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan. This joyous day is celebrated to give thanks for the blessings of Ramadan. Muslims attend the congregational Eid prayer service which is held in the morning. They wear new clothing, cook delicious food and invite friends and neighbors to celebrate with them. Fasting during Ramadan inspires sympathy for the hungry and needy, and encourages Muslims to donate generously to the poor. Eid-ul-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is a festival which comes about ten weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr, and marks the completion of Hajj (Holy pilgrimage to Makkah). It is the festival of Sacrifice that commemorates the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail to the commandment of Allah. Prophet Ibrahim had a series of dreams in which he saw himself sacrificing his eldest son Ismail. He inferred that it was perhaps the will of God that he should sacrifice the life of his son. Prophet Ibrahim, being most obedient to God, was about to sacrifice the life of his son Ismail, when God commanded him to stop and gave him the good news that he had indeed fulfilled His command. God was so pleased with Ibrahim because of his obedience that He multiplied his progeny into billions. He was also given the great honor of being the forefather of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. On the day of Eid those Muslims who can afford to sacrifice an animal are enjoined to do so after Eid Prayer.
