This Monday, April 4th at the Network of Religious Communities was Part I of a two day discussion about violence and injustice. Monday evening was a discussion about American Muslims in the community. On the Panel was Dr. Mark Johnson (Executive Director of Fellowship of Reconciliation), Dr. Othman Shibly (Periodontist and an implemental part of Building Bridges), Rabbi Drorah Setel (Rabbi of Temple Beth El and an implemental part of Building Bridges) and Pierrce Abrecht-Carrie (Pastor of United Church of Christ).
The discussion examined books and media that may be guiding American viewpoints about Muslim Americans, such as Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. A discussion about hoping in the future for Muslim minorities in the US to be accepted into inter-religious discussion without having to explain that Islam is a religion of peace. And there was some comparison of religious text of faiths and the unequal examination of violent verses from one over others.
