Around a hundred and eighty-five Buffalonians boarded the Miss Buffalo II at the Erie Basin Marina in Buffalo, NY this past Sunday for the 2nd annual Diversity Cruise, an event sponsored by WNY Muslims. The objective of this unique event was to bring together the members of the community by creating awareness in an interfaith effort with a focus on diversity.
The cruise ship set sail at 4pm at full capacity in the beautiful summer sun. People of all ages boarded oozing with excitement to be on the water. The scene was filled with fresh faces and buzzing conversation of old people, babies and everybody in between. Taste of India provided delicious meals through out the scenic cruise. Kids played board games and colored while enjoying the ride. Serene Shibly, one of the youth on board commented, “I thought this would be a perfect chance to interact with my community and be involved. It’s my first time and I definitely look forward to more Diversity Cruises.”
The diversity cruise was undoubtedly a huge success. It engaged people from every crevice of Buffalo with the simple goal of creating an opportunity for people to appreciate the diversity and partake in an interfaith effort in the city we love.
