World Hijab Day

WNYMusilms invites the community, this Saturday, February 1st 2014 from 10-6pm to try on a headscarf at Walden Galleria as part of the Second Annual World Hijab Day.

Last year a young Muslim woman by the name of Nazma Khan founded World Hijab Day in honor of the millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.  World Hijab Day is an annual event on February 1st in which the Muslim community invites all women who do not wear the hijab or headscarf to try on a hijab for the entire day. After only one year, over eighty countries are now participating in this day of celebration and education.  The event has been hailed as an important platform for educating non-Muslims about the headscarf, while also creating a sense of belonging for many Muslims who face discrimination for their decision to wear hijab.

WNYMuslims is celebrating this year with a table at the Walden Galleria Mall, near the Macy’s Entrance on the lower level, with headscarves from 10am-6:00pm. Participants will have the opportunity to experience how they look and feel while wearing a head scarf, and learn more about the practice and its role in the Islamic Faith.
